On Monday 21 March 2016, Trinity and Jesus Colleges, Oxford, co-hosted a “Women in Science” day for female Year 12 pupils. The event allowed students to further their scientific knowledge and skills, and gave them a valuable insight into studying a science course at university. It was a one-day, non-residential event catering for Year 12 applicants from Jesus and Trinity College’s link schools. The programme involved taster lectures and seminars in different subject streams (mathematical, physical, chemical and life sciences). There was also a Q&A with current students, tours of Colleges and information about Oxford courses.
63 female students attended, where 80% of accepted applicants were from state schools and 45% were interested in the mathematical and physical sciences streams. Feedback from the day was positive, with particularly positive feedback on the interesting academic sessions delivered.
