Jesus College, Cambridge, and St Anne's College, Oxford, ran a roadshow for teachers in the North East of England to enable teachers to feel confident in supporting applications to both universities.
This event allowed us to bring over 20 teachers together to facilitate practical discussion of attainment, aspiration and university application in their region. This discussion was a great learning experience for all involved, and we hope to build on the relationships established in coming years.
Feedback from the events was overall extremely positive. In the KS5 event, all participants agreed that the event had improved their understanding of Oxford and Cambridge admissions processes. All agreed it was clear where admissions processes differed, and all agreed they left with practical ideas to implement in their schools. The analysis of application forms by admissions tutors was consistently seen as the most useful aspect of the session.
Comments from the KS4 event were similarly positive. The vast majority of attendees agreed their understanding of Oxford and Cambridge admissions had improved; and all attendees agreed discussion of the concerns of parents and students was useful, and suggested possible solutions. Attendees agreed they left with practical ideas to implement in school.
